"Thank you" I said.
"You are welcome!" he replied with a great smile.
He was a shoe care taker at the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple. I was shocked with his answer. A boy looking like a simple, poor, illiterate could not give answer like this. How could he react like this?
I asked in English "what is your name?"
"Raghu" he replied.
"What are you doing here?" Seva- I am helping people.
another shocking answer. "Seva? What kind of help? I am sure these people are paying you."
I asked curiously. "No, I do help them because my mom suggested. She says when you help others, God will help you."
He answered confidently. "Look at my legs, I don't have it. People who have legs they need to bend to do this stuff so I am helping them."
I didn't know what to react at that time. I was impressed by his altruism, simplicity, smile and honesty. As being YuVA fellow, I decided to help him. I asked about his study. He did his ITI in tailoring so I thought that I could help him as I was having connections in an NGO called Gramshree which is working with women.
I asked them to help this fellow and to give him employment. They did their job. Today Raghu is handling 800 women who are the pillar of their family. That shoe care taker is the supervisor today. Through this incident I got the answer of making change i.e. be the change.
