Defying All Odds: Shubham Rathod’s Inspiring Journey to Medical School

The path to becoming a doctor is filled with rigorous academic demands, but for students who must battle severe financial distress, health crises, and global pandemics simultaneously, the journey becomes an extraordinary test of human spirit.

Meet Shubham Rathod, whose remarkable story is a testament to unyielding grit, resourcefulness, and the transformative power of timely support.

A Passion for Science Against the Odds

Since childhood, Shubham felt a deep pull toward science and developed a strong ambition to enter the medical field. After scoring an impressive 95 percentile in his 10th grade, reality set in: his father worked as a rickshaw driver and his mother as a homemaker, making the high cost of a quality NEET coaching institute completely unaffordable.

Undeterred, Shubham enrolled in a government school and charted his own path, relying entirely on self-study, YouTube, and free online educational platforms to prepare for the hyper-competitive NEET exam.

Surviving the Pandemic and Personal Hardship

His perseverance paid off when he scored 563 out of 720 in NEET 2021. However, this triumph coincided with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. With his father unable to earn an income and subsequently diagnosed with major depression, the family’s meager savings were entirely exhausted.

Facing a dire financial crisis, Shubham stepped up to support his family. He took a job at a blood bank, working there for five months to help keep his household afloat.

Eventually, he secured admission to GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar. To manage his initial college fees, he relied on his own earnings from the blood bank, alongside vital support from the blood bank’s owner.

Finding a Lifeline

Just as the financial strain of medical school threatened to overwhelm him, a college friend introduced Shubham to the Yuva Unstoppable scholarship program. He applied and was selected for support. Yuva Unstoppable and Bharat Shah stepped in to support him throughout his MBBS journey, lifting the crushing weight of financial anxiety off his shoulders.

Through the immense hard work of his parents, his own unbreakable dedication, and the backing of kind supporters, Shubham successfully passed his Final MBBS examinations in 2026.
